'PASANG KRUS', MIRRORS THE PRODUCER'S LIFE

By: Mario Bautista

DIRECTOR BUBOY TAN
has found a new producer for his next movie, "Pasang Krus". This is Maricris Santos, who fell in love with the project as it mirrors her own travails as a mom. She was only 15 when she fell in love and had her first child. The guy was 18, they got married and had two more kids. But they were living in poverty and Maricris, a pretty mestiza, got an offer to work in Japan. She went abroad against her husband's wishes and because of that, he hid their kids from her.

"Dahil sa Japan, bumuti ang buhay ko," she says. "But it was a struggle for me to get my kids back. Nakuha ko lang sila uli nang mabilanggo yung father nila. I had a hard time reconnecting with them. When Direk Buboy presented the script to me, kinilabutan ako kasi what the lead character, Hermina, went through as played by Rosanna Roces, yung mapawalay sa mga anak niya, yun mismo ang naranasan ko."

It was only three years ago that she was reunited with her only daughter and two sons. But tragedy quickly struck when her daughter, then only 16, fell in love and after breaking up with her boyfriend, committed suicide by hanging herself. "If not for my two younger sons, baka naloka ko nang mawala sa akin ang anak ko," she says. "Kaya nga when I saw Empress Schuck na siyang gumaganap na only daughter ni Rosanna sa movie, naalala ko ang anak ko kasi the same age sila when my daughter passed away."

The movie will be a special Holy Week presentation. "Dadalhin ko rin ito sa Japan para mapalabas sa lahat ng kababayan nating OFWs doon," adds Maricris who plays a supporting role in "Pasang Krus" as Rosanna's best friend. The movie's PRO is Ambet Nabus and the interview with the stars of the movie was held at the art gallery, Obra ni Nanay, of Cristy Fermin located at the building of Mommy Rose Flaminiano on Scout Reyes St. near Roces Avenue. You should check out her fabulous collection of paintings.
